Paul Boddum
Bio
Paul Boddum is an acclaimed Canadian contemporary dog portrait artist. His non-traditional portraits capture the essence, emotion, and personality of their subject; the domestic pet. Instead of creating a typical portrait of an animal, Paul approaches each work with the intention of creating a piece of modern contemporary art.
Paul has painted dogs for the past twenty years, being inspired by his love and appreciation of his own dog and other dogs postive impact on their owners lives. In his newest works, the animal is paired with abstract expressionist gestures. His paintings convey the expected details of the animals form, but the background is not treated like a background, it is painted as an extension of the animal.
Paul has exhibited in Toronto, New York, Maine, and California. Since exhibiting his work at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition in 2002, Paul began taking orders from across Canada and the US creating custom contemporary commissions for numerous independent collectors. His clients include Ann Rohmer and Chef Art Smith former personal chef for Oprah Winfrey. His work has been featured in House and Home, Style at Home, Boston Herald, Animal Fair Magazine, Toronto Star, and he has appeared on the Pet Network and CP 24.
