Commissioning a Custom Portrait
While traditional pet portraits conjure up images of dogs perched on pillows for royalty, Paul's fresh take on pet portraiture is more influenced by modern and abstract art. His contemporary portraits capture the essence and personality of the dog and cat in a non-traditional modern style. The paintings are custom made to fit in with your personal home décor and style. Pauls one of a kind paintings become heirloom pieces that honour the memory and importance of your pet. While portraits for clients personal art collections and portraits as a surprise gift to commemorate special occasions make up the bulk of his work, more and more he is being asked to produce in memoriam paintings of peoples beloved pets.
The Process
Each portrait begins with a personal consultation to tell me about your pet and to incorporate any style requests you may have. Basic informaiton such as if the portrait is a gift or for yourself, and the style of portrait you're interested in. You can email me, phone, or we can arrange a meeting in person.
The next step is sending me your photos. You can send as many photos as you wish and I accept them via email jpegs, a link to a photo sharing website, or by regular mail. By your request we can arrange a photo session of your pet (within the Toronto area).
After you've sent your photos and chosen a canvas size, we will agree upon the turn around time and payment terms. A standard 25% deposit (non-refundable) to begin the custom artwork is required. Expect a time frame depending on size and complexity of the portrait to be approximately 30-60 days.
Design Sketches for Your Portrait
My style allows for an interactive process should the client wish. With your input the portrait will be more representative of both your personal style and décor, and your pets personality. I'm happy to provide 3 design sketches at no additional cost. My design sketch is a digital mock up of what your portrait can look like.The colour design sketches are emailed to you for your feedback.

- Head or full body of pet to be painted
- Placement of your pet in the composition
- A style and look similar to one of my other paintings yet with some modifications(see paintings)
For quality assurance, when the painting is finished I will ship it only when you are satisfied with the final photograph of the portrait.
